Amanda Nicastro donated a kidney for her sister Brenna in 2014 via a paired kidney exchange. It was a joyful decision that came easily to her, and is still one of the most rewarding experiences of her life. So it came as a surprise to Amanda to hear variations of, "Wow, you're a hero. I'm not sure I could do that," over and over again in response to her transplant story.
Amanda is inclined to think she really is just that awesome. But what if we lived in a world where deciding to be a living donor (or a registered organ donor for that matter) was as second nature as buckling a seat belt when we got into a car? What if choosing to help others was simply the norm and not extraordinary?
Amanda happens to love the attention being a hero provides her so she wrote a solo show about all the containers of pee she had to carry on the subway. I’m Just Kidneying takes a whimsical look into the process of living kidney donation and pokes holes into the idea of what it takes to be “hero material.”
Due to COVID-19 there are no live theatrical performances of I'm Just Kidneying at this time.
Amanda has been a frequent guest on Podcasts, Talk Shows, and at Corporate Events. She was delighted to be a part of the Virtual Allocare Transplant Festival earlier this year. For booking inquiries please email Amanda.Nicastro@gmail.com
